Adopted AmberSo my “scabie baby” aka Amber, now Roxi, has been adopted by the two most loving parents she could ever ask for!

2 weeks ago, Amber was dumped at the pound after her owner found out she had scabies. Amber had been adopted through Priceless Pets. Instead of telling Priceless Pets of the situation, her owner decided dumping her at the pound was the better choice. But enough about that, I’ve already written about Amber HERE.

Let’s talk about Ashley. Ashley is Amber’s new mom. Ever since the day Ashley saw Amber’s picture and story she’s been in love. She got my number through a mutual friend and was ready to take her home that day. Amber was not in the best condition and she understood that. However, that did not stop her from visiting Amber every chance she got. She would come after work at least 2-3 times a week just to walk her; even in her most contagious state! She had no problems dawning a blue medical gown and gloves and taking her for a walk at the park down my street. By the 3rd time she came over there was no doubt in my mind she was “the one”. Even Ashley’s boyfriend of 5 years began coming with her after the 1st visit. The first time I met this guy he had already done research on her condition and was prepared for anything that might happen to Amber should her mange come back!

aa_bl_3After talking with one of the Priceless Pets directors, Mandy Stover, we had decided that Amber was ready to go home. She hadn’t received her clean bill of health but they were more than prepared for the challenge and the sooner Amber could be home, the better. They had no other dogs at home so there was no worry about infecting another dog and they just LOVED Amber.

When I called Ashley to tell her the news, you would have thought I called her to tell her she won the lottery. And in a way, she did!! And so did Amber in a major way!! You see, as a foster, I don’t pick the parents, the dogs do. They let me know who they want to be with and every time Ashley came over, she would cry and want out of her crate. That’s pretty much the only time she did that. I fed, bathed and walked that dog for 2 weeks and she never did that for me! Lol and the night they picked her up she was going crazy. She knew exactly why they were there….she knew she was finally going home.

In a perfect world, the first relationship we have would be our only one but more times than not you gotta go through some REALLY crappy ones to find “the one”. Amber went from being born without a home to being adopted, coming down with scabies and being dumped at the pound, to a foster home where she had to spend most of her time in a crate to finding her forever family. I’m sure if Amber could talk she would definitely say it was worth every bit of the struggle. But Amber is a dog, and all they know is to look forward so her struggle is buried right where it should be…in the past. Nothing but happy tails for her and her new family!!

Penny, Elvis and I look forward to our next foster….and finding Lucy a home!!

Ps…by the time you read this, Elvis, myself and a few of the Priceless Pets dogs will be at Townsend Junior High helping an 8th grade girl with her career project about Priceless Pets. Yes, this girl wants to run a no-kill shelter when she gets older. That, however, will be another story!
