Jude’s Journey – Week 3

Jude's Journey - Week 3

Jude Week 3As each week passes, Jude seems to be getting better in every aspect. And with each week that passes, I know his time as my foster dog is nearing!

Health:

The day I picked Jude up from the pound, his skin felt so leathery. The vet referred to it as “elephant skin”. It was callous and rough. I felt so bad for him. However, I’m happy to report that “leather skin” is no more! It’s soft like the rest of the dogs in the house and his hair is growing back everywhere! He even looks to have a white patch on his chest! I’ve been mixing grain free kibble with his chicken the past few days and he does not appear to be itchy. I’m starting to think more and more, Jude’s condition was a case of neglect more than anything. He’s also putting some weight on which makes me very happy!

Socialization/Training:

There seems to be a little love affair between him and Penny. They’re ALWAYS next to each other. Whether it be playing, cuddling or kissing each other. I think Penny will be the one who misses him the most! I’m telling you guys, he’s another Elvis. He’s been here just about 3 weeks and has yet to have an accident in the house. Whoever adopts this guy is in for a treat! He definitely knows his name and he has a pretty decent recall when his name is called! I’ve yet to see anything close jude_wk3_bl_3to any aggression. He has gotten along with anything that has crossed his path. He even prefers to cuddle with his toys rather than chew them!

Overall:

He’s ready for his home. There’s nothing I’m doing for him that another responsible owner can’t do for him. I can already feel that bittersweet feeling in my chest as I type this but I’ve learned to accept this feeling as GREAT sign! He has such an amazing dog, I know he will thrive anywhere he gets the proper love, care and attention he needs! However, my wish is for him to go to a home with at least one other dog and kids would be a bonus! Put it this way, if I were to “retire” from fostering today, Jude would be staying here and living his days with me, Penny and Elvis! He’s THAT good!

  1. Hey! Where’s Wally in that film clip. Are you showing partiality to the “Pitties” ? LOL
They are all such beautiful dogs; just makes a person want to love on them. You are the local “dog whisperer”. When time ever allows and your inclined to, you could train “humans” how to handle their pets.
I recently read an incident where a boy was attacked by family members pit bull (which was in a cage) and the kid let him out. BIG RED FLAG – a dog not “socialized” becomes an issue, NOT the breed!!!!!

Awe, Jude cuddles with his toys. He’s a lover, not a fighter! <3
P.S. I also love his and Penny's little love affair.

Seeing your posts and reading your blogs gives hope and shows every animal deserves a chance at life, And watching Judes progress in such a short amount of time shows what some extra love and care could do. I recently picked up a pup yesterday that was dumped outside of a vets office near my house, the vet wanted to put him to sleep but one of the assistants talked her into treating him and finding him a home. Seeing his pic on fb i couldnt help but to pick him up and i thought id be the last to get there seeing over 50 people showed interest in him, i waited a couple hours thinking someone may have got him but the vet returned my email to said he was still there and that no one has came in to even look at him, he seems to have the same condition as jude. Needs 2 baths a week, medicine everyday, has barely any hair and is constantly itchy. Not to mention he is 4 months old and only a pound (without hair its hard to tell what breed he is best guess is mini poodle). Having him for only 24 hour he already looks 100x better and i can tell he feels better too. Although my larger girls are still trying to figure out what he is hes loved unconditionally by them.
